South Fork Fishing Report

South Fork: River flow is at 20,000 cfs but looks like it may be starting to drop again.  When the river drops and levels off again try San Juan worms, and rubber legs.

How does the South fork fish in May? A bunch of our Montana guides do a guys trip every year and have been going to the Bighorn during high water on the Madison and Yellowstone around the 3rd week of may each year. We are looking for a new tailwater to try that isn't too far from home. Are flows too high the third week of May on an average year or can good fishing be had?

The third week in May can be really hit or miss. That is around the time they start to do some major releases from the dam to start making room for runoff in Palisades reservoir. When the flow fluctuates quite a bit it will affect fishing and take a couple days of steady flow to bring it back. There can be a lot of ups and downs during that time so it can be tough. Here is a link that you can check the flows on the river with http://waterdata.usgs.gov/id/nwis/uv/?site_no=13032500&PARAmeter_cd=0006... Hope that helps.
